How to get rid of “powered by Shopify”
Method 1: Edit code
Step 1: Log in to your Shopify account
Log in to your Shopify Dashboard with your unique login details. Once you have logged in, you will find yourself on your dashboard. This is where you make all backend changes, including changing your Shopify domain name and canceling your Shopify store.
Step 2: Go to edit code
- Find the section labeled Online Store to the left of your dashboard and click on it.
- Below it, click on the Themes option.
- You will now be in your Themes library where you can download Shopify Themes and make changes to your current one.
- Next to your current theme will be an Action button. Click on this button.
- On the dropdown menu, scroll down until you see the Edit code option. Click on it.
Step 3: Remove “powered by Shopify”
There will now be code on your screen but don’t stress. Just like changing your store URL might seem scary at first, this too will prove to be easier than it looks.
- To the left of the code will be folders. One of these folders will be labeled Sections. Click on the Sections folder.
- From the drop-down available under the Sections folder, look for the Footer.Liquid file. Click on this folder.
- Once this folder is open, you will want to search for the “powered by Shopify” code. To do this, open the search bar.
On PC, type in Ctrl + F on your keyboard to open the search bar. On Mac, use the Command + F keys to open the search bar.
- Once the search bar is available, search for {{ powered_by_link }}.
- This will bring up a highlighted section in your code that is responsible for the “powered by” tag. All you need to do is go to the highlighted section and clear it like you would any other bit of text. Be sure not to mess with the other code in your folder.
Step 4: Save your changes
Once you have finished removing the text, navigate to the top right-hand corner and click on the Save option.
View your store as a visitor from your browser and check that the tag was successfully removed.

Step 1: Log in to your Shopify account
Log in to your Shopify Dashboard with your unique login details.
Step 2: Go to edit language
- Once you have logged in to your dashboard, navigate to the left sidebar and look for the Online Store section. Click on it. This is where you can manage your backend and find information like finding your Shopify store URL.
- On the dropdown menu, navigate toward the Themes option and click on it.
- You will now find yourself in your Themes library, where all your downloaded themes are available.
- Navigate to your active theme and click on the Action button to the right of the theme name.
- From this drop-down menu, choose the Edit language option.
Step 3: Remove “powered by Shopify”
- On the new page on your dashboard, toward the top of the page, will be a filter labeled Filter Transactions. In this section, change the filter to search for “powered” on the page.
- Once the filter is applied, you will see a box for “Powered by Shopify”. Underneath it will be an empty line. In this line, put one space with your spacebar and nothing else.

Once you have finished removing the text, navigate to the top right-hand corner and click on the Save option.
View your store as a visitor from your browser and check that the tag was successfully removed.
